Cecily Hartsock

Founding partner, Peoria

Cecily founded the firm and reads every chart before a case is accepted.

Cecily spent her first summers in a hospital records room, filing charts, and learned to read one long before she read a statute. She started the firm to give patients a lawyer who would treat the medical record as the whole story.

She still opens each new file herself, and she is the one who calls when the answer is no.

How Cecily reads a chart

She starts at the end, with what happened to the patient, and works backward through the nursing notes and the orders until she finds the first place a different choice was possible.

Then she sends the file to a physician who has no stake in the outcome. If that physician sees nothing, neither does she, and she says so.

If you call the Peoria office, she may be the one who picks up.
